THIS IS WHERE MY STORY BEGINS
The Most Anticipated Hotel Opening of the Decade
Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp
‘What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare’… Step out of Antwerp’s urban fashion hub into monastic tranquillity and enter a world of luxury, where craftsmanship, innovation and ecology meet tradition, and a botanical garden offers refuge.
marketing deluxe is delighted to announce that the Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp is scheduled to open in summer 2022 after a soft opening phase.
IRET Development acquired a 99-year lease on the former Elzenveld Hotel and Congress Centre in Antwerp. The landmark project restores and revitalises the historic complex of buildings on this 20,000sqm site. Parts of the former monastery and chapel date back to the 15th century, but the history of the Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp begins in 1238 when the Sint-Elisabeth hospital moved to the present site. Featuring private green spaces and complemented by an almost 200-year-old Botanical Garden, the Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp is a verdant hideaway in the bustling city centre. The site’s history is palpable throughout the complex, and the current refurbishment project has stripped away later ornamentation to reveal ancient stonework and structures.
The ancient walls of a former monastery bear witness to a long history of community, sanctuary, healing and comfort. The Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp’s mission is to create a place that inspires feelings of freedom and luxury born from nature, space and privacy. This exceptional resort aims to set new standards in ambience, sustainable design and innovation, putting Antwerp on the map as a destination for connoisseurs and foodies, business travellers, design devotees, spa aficionados and affluent shoppers. The Botanic becomes Antwerp’s first 5-star superior hotel and the city’s first member of Leading Hotels of the World. It brings together a sense of history and contemporary sensibilities – turning experiences into lasting memories. Imbued with a laid-back spirit, it is a destination with exceptional fine dining, honest Belgian cuisine, a ground-breaking spa, conference hub, wedding venue; a hotspot for celebrations and the ultimate in deluxe hospitality. But most of all, it is the one and only Botanic Sanctuary.
Extraordinary Accommodation
TIP
The unique Spa & Healthness Suite and Diamond Spa Suite provide private spa treatment spaces with sauna, whirlpool and Technogym exercise bike. All are fitted with air filter and purification systems. Allergens such as fine dust, pollen, moulds and other environmental toxins are eliminated, as are more than 99% of all airborne viruses and bacteria. The same technology removes ozone from – and adds oxygen to – the air.
Stargazing Gastronomy
1238
Wouter Van Tichelen
Named after the year of the monastery’s foundation, the 1238 Restaurant is set in a perfect location at the heart of Botanic. A modern conservatory provides an impeccable architectural foil for the Botanic’s historic building fabric. Light, timeless and stylish, dishes are based on the classic foundations of French and Belgian cuisine. The focus is on fresh, local ingredients prepared with understated finesse.
The Revival of Hertog Jan | 2 Michelin Stars
Gert de Mangeleer and Joachim Boudens
Hertog Jan at Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp boasts an intimate setting with its own greenhouse, beehives and herb garden. The restaurant has a limited number of covers, and the focus is on omakase, a formal dining practise that gives chefs full creative freedom to select and prepare a sequence of inspirational dishes. This becomes a journey of at least three hours, reflecting the season and the chef’s inventiveness and experience.
Bar Bulot
Gert de Mangeleer and Joachim Boudens
Part of the Hertog Jan Restaurant Group and the sister restaurant to Michelin-starred Bar Bulot in Bruges has been sensitively integrated into the ancient grounds. Chic, intimate and welcoming, Bar Bulot adds its classic blue and white hues and laid-back metropolitan vibe to the Botanic’s historic ambiance. Chef Koen Gussenhoven offers a contemporary spin on French and Belgian classics. It’s the very best of Belgian brasserie cuisine.
Fine Fleur | 1 Michelin Star
Jacob Jan Boerma and Thomas Diepersloot
Pure indulgence is guaranteed, from the historically respectful interior to the stargazing cuisine of one of the world’s most exciting pairings of chefs. Glimpses of the kitchen offer a taste of things to come: craftsmanship, creativity and attention to detail in a special, historic location. It’s a journey of flavours and experiences. Classic techniques are combined with fresh elements, acidity and herbs and spices from around the world.
Henry’s Bar
It’s where you’ll find the height of style, a convivial atmosphere and a gloriously good drinks menu. Excellently located within the walls of the 13th century monastery, Henry’s takes its name from Henri-Ferdinand van Heurck, the 19th century botanist and director of Antwerp’s Botanical Garden. It’s Antwerp’s definitive rendezvous for cocktails and canapés offering a healthy dose of flair and panache – Botanic style.
